Rustic Thoughts by Egypt Rain Mountain

On 'Unbranding' and the need to lose the pretension of being experts

My soul is exhausted at times while trying to present myself in a certain way online. The thing is all I want to do is write, share my thoughts, think out loud, and figure out my life through writing and working through ideas. I don't want to exist as a brand.

I also believe one can have an online presence and even an online business without forcing themselves into a narrow brand. The notion of 'personal branding' makes my tummy churn somewhat. I mean, how did we all get to this?

Corporations are pretending to be people, and people are pretending to be brands.

I'm all for unbranding myself.

Yes, I show up online in multiple capacities. I have a digital garden/website where I share all manner of ventures. I even offer my books to anyone who sees value in buying them. Yet despite this, I don't want to become a brand. I'm not an expert in anything. I'm okay with that.

I simply want to exist as myself. In whatever iteration that may take.

NO BRAND, NO OVER-MARKETING OF MYSELF, NO DEFENDING MY RIGHT TO EXIST.

Just me, as I am, showing up in whatever way I can.
